Discover rare magnesium clusters and local dining pairings in Palma's suburbs.
Discovered in 1906 during the excavation of a domestic cistern, the Cuevas de Génova are the smallest and most accessible cave system in Mallorca. Located just above Palma in the residential Génova neighbood, the caves are famous for their rare, coral-like magnesium clusters (*coraloires*) that coat the rock walls.
Because the caves are situated within Palma's greater municipal transit zone, public transportation is highly convenient. Travelers can take local Palma EMT Bus Line 46, which stops within short walking distance of the cave entrance. Uber and TaxiClick are active in the area, offering quick transfers.
The descent to the 36-meter depth consists of extremely steep, winding, and damp stone steps. Sturdy, non-slip footwear is required. This route is not suitable for strollers, small children, or travelers with limited mobility.
The cave entrance is located directly beneath "Ses Coves" restaurant, which specializes in traditional, oak-charcoal grilled meats (*carn a la brasa*). This is a restaurant you can eat at to enjoy a tapas lunch paired with a cave tour, served daily between 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM.
